Mizzou is No. 1!
The University of Missouri-Columbia Student Chapter of the Mechanical Contractors Association of America is MCAA’s 2016 Student Chapter of the Year. The chapter was presented with a trophy and a $3,000 check at the Annual Awards Breakfast during MCAA 2017 in San Diego, CA.
This was the second honor bestowed upon this young chapter. The chapter’s competition team took first place in the 2016-2017 Student Chapter Competition as well. Both honors demonstrated that hard work, teamwork and determination produce positive results.
For example, when the chapter’s team placed 10th in MCAA’s 2015-2016 competition, the chapter analyzed their submission, considered elements that needed improvement and then worked with their sponsoring local association to organize contractor training sessions. The sessions covered piping design, scheduling, commissioning, systems training and much more—information not covered in the students’ engineering curriculum. And when the 2016-2017 competition was announced, the team visited a local wastewater treatment plant to learn about its operations.
Although the Mizzou chapter is only in its second year, chapter members rolled up their sleeves to organize job site tours, fundraisers and membership drives, all of which were new experiences for them. They also landed internships and full-time jobs with mechanical contractors.

Congratulations to a great chapter!
